When will the airlines reduce their fares?
If they want customers, they need to make flying a bit cheaper. Afterall, we are not in an inflation and the price of goods and services is coming down.
They're expensive because they don't have the staffing and delays are high right now, there's demand and they can't fill it, prices wont go down until they hire enough people to meet the demand.
Inflation falling doesn't mean prices come down, it means they rise at a slower rate. You need deflation for prices to fall.
They don’t have to reduce their fares. Prices are very high and we are still buying tickets and most flights are full.
Until people decide they are no longer going to pay the prices and airlines start losing business, these prices will only continue to get higher.

I fly standby and can tell you, flights are completely full.
Airlines are having no problem charging crazy prices and absolutely filling every seat. I wouldn’t expect price drops soon.

As long as there is demand to particular places, it will remain high. There are reasonable fares to lots of places right now.
When they count inflation they don’t add gas and fuel into that. So no it isn’t down. Food is still up, gas is going up and wages are higher than they were last year at this time.
Put all those together, you are going to get higher prices.

I don’t think prices are all that high, relatively speaking, at least to the places I fly to.
I’ve been flying back and forth to Europe since I was too young to remember and generally I pay less now than I did in the 80’s and though this summer was expensive, everything else in my life seems to have at least tripled in price in the last 35 years so paying a few hundred more wasn’t such big deal to me.
As to when prices are coming down? Right now. I have a lot of travel planned from LAX the rest of the year with Tokyo this Wednesday @$900 r/t on AA, Sydney in two weeks $975 on Qantas, back to Tokyo in September and October at $1,000 on JAL but could have done for $750- 800 on any of the big three and JFK nonstop in September and October for $216 on JetBlue, all prices that were a pretty good deal 25 years ago.
Also, check out: We are flying with Turkish Airlines from the USA to Athens and back –But..

There is plenty of demand even at high prices. I've been on 10 flights this year and each one is completely full.
There are deals if your dates are flexible or willing to reposition. Otherwise. those are the prices you're going to pay for a while.

I did some research on this because I noticed that airfares between cities in Europe are significantly less than airfares in the USA. US airlines make 3 times the profit of European airlines.
Thank you airline consolidation! Not sure if you are US based, but I am and 85% of the flights from my home based city are American Airlines.
No competition, so we see expensive prices. I make a point of trying to use any other airline.

Prices haven’t slowed most people.
down. You wanna go where you wanna go, then you pay what you gotta pay.

Airline ticket costs are rising due to higher fuel prices, shortage of airline staff, increased demand for air travel, and inflation.
These factors are likely to continue to drive up airfares in the coming months and years.

I don't see prices coming down the best thing you can hope for is to keep an eye on best travel dates.
We actually have pondered how they can fly people across the country for such low prices. We flew from Tampa to Denver last December for $19.
Not sure where you live, but the price for everything has gone sky high! At least in Canada it has and in many other countries. It’s absurd. So I doubt the airlines will lower their prices any time soon.
