I don't want this to be subsumed into the grocery/energy bills but spend it on some fun to look forward to as a family (2x adults, 2 x 14 year olds).

So each of us has a £225 budget.

The Rules:
  1. It can not be spent on "things" but experiences.
  2. We all have to do the experiences together.
So please hit me with your top tips... the more unusual the better. We are in the south of England but have family in the north so all locations please (and we have already done theme parks and Harry Potter).

I've done Paris in a day, early train from st pancras, last one home. Did the hop on hop off bus tour and saw all the main sights, stopped for lunch & early dinner and some people watching.

Merlin Annual passes. You could get gold ones with that money. 12 months of fun days out. I got my children them for Christmas and we've made so many memories.

We live 5 minutes drive from legoland, 25 mins from Thorpe Park, 45 mins from chessington and an hours train ride to London. We've used them so much and completely got our moneys worth out of them.

We've done loads of different sealife's and also Warwick Castle to. I would definitely recommend them xxx

The longest zip wire was at a quarry in north wales and great fun! They’ve also got the cave trampolines there.

You can sleep over in the natural history museum in London!

I can’t remember how much it is but it looks amazing and something I know a friend of mine has done; there are things you can do there during the sleepover too!

I’d invest the money in to merlin passes. Then you have a full year of merlin entertainment.

Love this!! A city day trip, we did Dublin for £35 each return. Wild camping, festival, theatre, sponsor an animal.

My parents do this every Xmas for my kids- a budget for a trip/experience in one envelope, another envelope with lunch and snack money. They love it!

Buy yourself a family membership to English heritage and national trust. That way you can see things all over the country!

The kids live exploring 'ruins' and they often have good family days.

I'd do a weekend away. Abroad, so many amazing things you can do. Have a look at Nantes in France. Could go by ferry & drive to save funds. Use Tesco Clubcard for ferry.

Nantes has lots to do. A fab castle but most of all L' elephant which is the best thing I have ever been on. Very Jules Verne.

I've booked axe throwing in Southampton for £19 per person for my husband and I next weekend as a birthday present.

Something very different and should be very entertaining.

I did a flying lesson which I love. I used to do aerial silks. I can also recommend welding, blacksmithing, outdoors courses. Particularly the former two as you will create a momento of your day which you can keep.

Did a deer butchery course with my dad and brother (you come home with a lot of meat).

Canoeing and sailing would be great as well. For the adults, track days become available.
