You can prevent cough and catarrh by keeping the baby warm, keeping babies away from those with colds and avoiding baby's contact with smokes and fumes. Make sure baby is immunized for age. Most do not require medicines. If there's associated high fever or fast or difficulties with breathing then take the child to the hospital for proper evaluation and management.
