We are about to do a Reno on our ensuite and have chosen to do a walk-in shower. We have narrowed it down to two quotes.

One quote has included the screen in the price (which is a glazier coming out to the job, taking measurements and screen being custom made to fit the shower), the other quote hasn't included the screen, it will be an extra cost. Can anyone tell me what I can expect to pay for a shower screen?

Picture is an example of of the type of screen. I am based in Sydney.

Thanks in advance!

I paid $1500 for a low iron glass walk in shower screen installed and made to measure.

Builders wife here.....I would go with the quote that includes the shower screen.

One being that should anything go wrong with the install or the screen down the track the builder is responsible for it as a whole and is covered by their warranties.

If you get it installed separately and something goes wrong down the track it become a he said she said issue.

Don't miss: How much should I expect to pay for the cabinets for a laundry like this?

I wouldn’t think you need a custom shower screen. My one similar to this came in sizes 1000mm, 1100mm and 1200mm. I chose 1100mm and it was $679.

Mine was more expensive as it’s low iron glass so clearer but normal glass would be around half that price.

Sorry not sure about install costs.

I just bought three shower screws from high grove when they had 20% off and the chrome U channel. 2 x 900 and 1 x 1000 with the radial finish for less than $700 for all of them!!

My builder installed them. They were super simple.

I had quotes for $1100 each one!!

I have had a walk-in shower, and have found it to be a lot colder in the winter, without the door.

Also, water went everywhere! We did it ourselves but you have to make sure the walls and floor are square for a DIY, otherwise you will end up having to go down the road of getting a glazier to make and fit.

I would think you’d only need a custom screen if the size/space was unusual.

I’ve just got a standard 900mm screen for $480, a custom screen by a glazier was quoted $1500 to just add an extra 20 mm, my tiler just packed it out using a metal channel.

That was for a specific size.

Custom is always the way to go because walls and floors are rarely exactly plumb. Around 1000-1500.

Buying premade becomes an issue if you want to install yourself anyway not many people will touch them.

Regarding comments that a shower without a door is cold, there is more to it than just whether there is a door or not.

In our old bathroom there was no way I’d not have a door as it was drafty but renos eliminated the drafts and we also installed underfloor heating.

We are in Melbourne and yet it’s not cold at all.

Its just a thickened sheet of glass rated to use as a screen ..take the measurements yr self get the glass cut and self install very easy.

You can buy the wall and floor clips from either bunnings or a bathroom place ..and a tube of waterproof silicone...unless cost is not an issue for you .then get some one in to do it for you ..

Don't forget to take a look at: Has anyone used the warm brushed nickel tapware from Yabby and had a frameless shower?

We bought a custom screen on-line for about $300 a little while back. It came from Sydney (we live on the Gold Coast). No door and it's not any colder than usual. Wall and floor not square in spite of new screed and tiling.

Immediately following a shoulder reconstruction I had my son hold it while I drilled, siliconed and installed it.

I fitted the carriage style towel rack in the same manner.

If l can come over to get a proper visual of the space size... plus as much as glass is so in now...do you want to be cleaning it all the time ?? My thoughts are half & half like American do their walk-in design.

There is a place down in Artarmon that might do it cheaper... it's where we got ours from... In regards to the - quotes you need to decide on the overall best design or image that you want to achieve to be happy with.
