Hi Everyone!

For those who have gone to Tulum, what was your way of transportation? We are leaning towards just taking the bus.

This is our FIRST TIME out the country. If you have taken the bus, how or where were you able to take tour buses 🚌 to Cenotes, Chichen-Itza, Isla Mujeres and etc?

Also, my bf really wants to do snorkeling 🤿 where do you recommend?

I also looked into car rentals but this “out of the country” insurance looks complicated 😭

My bf travel to A LOT of states but this is our first time out of the country together and we are so excited! Sorry for asking lots of questions 🥲

Alternatively you can take the bus to Playa and get a car rental there which is much cheaper than the airport. You do have to pay for the insurance but I was able to rent a car for around $150/week with everything.

Driving is super easy, just watch out for the speed bumps when coming into a town.

From the airport you can take the ADO to Playa del Carmen and then transfer to the Tulum bus. You could also arrange for a shared van to go straight to Tulum. There are also collectivo buses that travel short distances that you can catch to go to cenotes or you can take a taxi. Spanish is helpful for the collectivos but not totally necessary.

We have taken the collectivos - white vans from Akumal to Tulum. It’s very inexpensive and is often filled with tourists or local workers headed to work at the various resorts
