Baths…the builder is renovating our bathroom and has suggested we get a new bath as “everything will be new and you’ve got a drab old bath”. We thought we’d keep it because it was the original old cast iron bath and it’s deep. Now I’m starting to have second thoughts. What do you think? What I don’t like about our bath is that it’s too long for me! What sort of bath do you have & recommend? Could I see a photo of your bath please?

Thanks..

We removed an old cast iron bath from one of our renovations and have regretted it ever since. They are indestructible and can be recoated cost effectively if you want to freshen it up.

We kept ours and had it resprayed. The cast iron ones are so much nicer than the new baths.

Keep it!! It has soul! Better for the planet to keep it. No offence to builders also but they often don’t have the best design ideas!

KEEP IT…. I was told the same but metal baths are expensive & you will regret it. This is mine… a new lease on life.

Fresh tiles and tapware and the bath will look no different to a new one, assuming its in as good condition as it looks.

Keep the bath and have it resurfaced once your bathroom Reno’s are complete. I wouldn’t leave it as per your photo though. I would pull it out and have it put in a new frame and tiles, taps etc to suit you bathroom Reno.

My acrylic new bath in my bathroom has aged so quickly and needs replacing close to 3yrs in.

They don’t keep the heat anywhere near as well either.

Keep and respect for the cost of a new bath.

Nothing new is made as well as old original stuff if it can be given a new lease on life.

Keep it, cast iron retains heat far better than newer offerings on the market. If resurfacing though do go to someone reputable as if it’s done badly it will look terrible. For this reason with ours I didn’t respray but there was a hairline crack so I disguised that by covering with an accessory.

New tiles and silicon refreshed the bath.

Keep the bath. To get a similar one now would cost a fortune. If your builder thinks it's old and drab, simply get it resprayed. I know a lot of people will suggest getting a free standing tub, but have you given any thought as to how to clean around or under those things? Nightmare!
