Please ideas of how to cover the brick steps to match the German schmear!

Ideas please! if you don’t approve of covering exposed brick feel free to move along. I’m in the process of German schmearing the few bricks walls in our new house to brighten it up. At the moment the flooring between the spaces are a reddish wood and slate. I would love to schmear the brick steps but hubs is concerned it won’t hold up to hefty foot traffic with our large family. Please ideas of how to cover the brick steps to match the German schmear.

I’d do black paving paint so it ties in with the black slate.

I’d go render and actually create a smooth surface over the bricks.

Not a fan of the German schmear myself, but I’d recommend a paint specifically for brick. How keen are you on the brick wall between the dining and living areas?

I’d be tempted, very tempted, to remove the brick down to the floor level and have one long step down.

I had an icky brown fireplace in my tiny home - covered it up with white mortar and it came out ok. You're doing a great job.

Trust your gut not what other people think.

Would you consider smearing that small wall off dining area with a sledge hammer and replace with solid timber sill and steps. It’ll feel more spacious. I took out a colonial look rail in one house.

Defo looks good and like the comment above on rendering too. Defo white looks good.
Isn’t shmearing a funny word hahah made me giggle.
