I have been looking for a new pet insurer as mine has significantly increased, I am currently with Animal Friends and have been for years but they have gone up from £14 a month to £26. I have found a cheaper on called Swinton. What are everyone's experiences with Swinton before I swap insurers.

Many thanks.

The only problem you have if you do change is the new insurer will not cover for any pre existing conditions. I am speaking from experience myself as my dog had a urine infection, symptoms were sickness, diarrhea and a rash.

Any illness with any of these symptoms regardless of what it is cannot be covered in the future.

As you know most things starts with sickness etc.

Don't miss: Best pet insurance and is there one that would cover/put towards ...

Whoever you choose make sure you do a life policy and not a yearly one,as life policies pay out for things like diabetes etc and continue paying for existing conditions if you continue insuring with them.it may seem cheap at the time getting yearly ones but things like crucial ligament can run into thousands.

Swinton is an Insurance broker so they will search the market for the right level of cover at the best price I agree with the previous post go for lifetime cover for the reasons already mentioned. Also, do bear in mind that insurance gets more expensive as your pet gets older and any new insurer will exclude pre existing conditions in exclusions.

I’m with Animal Friends and my policy went up from £36 to £52 a month this year. I complained. They justified themselves in a letter.

Got no where. But I’ve got a life time policy and they’re brilliant at paying out…

I'm with PDSA. I've got £3000 lifetime cover for £9.02 a month (cat is just over 1 yr old) & part of my premium goes to the charity. The 20% thingy doesn't kick in until my cat is 10.

Their customer service is pretty good too. I haven't needed to claim anything yet.

I've just changed from animal friends to spot on insurance. Was way cheaper, only issue is you have to pay up front for treatments then claim. But 9 days after changing over one of our dogs knocked his teeth out and we had the money back within 10 days.

The other good thing pre existing conditions don't count once 2 years have passed without claiming for it (hope that makes sense) x

Just to add, I had my renewal from Tesco and it was £234 which surprised me as the same policy online on a comparison site was £100 less. I called them and after discussion they actually reduced my premium to £124!! It was something to do with the type if policy even though the cover was the same.

He also added a discount as I've never claimed on it.

It sometimes pays to have a chat with your current supplier but do a comparison first. Should add that is for 2 older moggies!

I was actually just going to ask this question. I am with pet plan and they've just raised it to 960 a year that's almost 80quid a month  costs me the same as my car insurance!!! This is for a chorkie dog with no conditions.
