Check your emails! Octopus have decided to hike direct debit payment up from 1st October. You can go on your account to change the amount they want but that was met with we need more notice to change payments to what we want to pay and a lot of people got a surprise at the big chunk taken from bank accounts! Just heads up.

Mines not going up. Maybe they've adjusted it according to what you owe.

They have to let you know when they make changes.

I cancelled my direct debit for this very reason. Now send monthly readings and pay for what I owe x

I don't use direct debit. I have their app and log in and pay manually every month. I m self employed so don't have a regular pay date so this works better for me.

I just came to say the same thing. They wanted to put mine up by £70 but luckily it's let me change it back down. It even says in the email your bill will be lower due to a fall in prices.

I don't know where they're basing these figures from either. I track my usage myself so know exactly what it should be costing me over the year so my dd matches what I know I should be paying.

Don't miss: Has anyone had trouble trying to switch to octopus?

I rang them and said i am only paying what I can afford at the moment and they said it was ok i don't know where they think people will have a extra 100pounds all of a suddenly nobody gets a raise in October and its nothing like 100pounds all it is after tax a couple of quid if your lucky.

I pay a variable direct debit according to usage, l haven't got hundreds of pounds for what they want.

I phoned them up and got it changed.

They won't tell you that you can do this. My bills winter summer are below 40 pounds a month. They wanted 323 a month. They are out to make money.

Explore these too: I’m with Shell Energy and I’d like to change to Octopus!

I can’t understand what the issue is with direct debits. I work out what I use on average every year then divide by 12 and that’s what I pay. I even include any potential rises.

They try to change the DD but I always stuck with my calculations. I’m with OVO and they let me pay by DD what I set it at.
