Has anybody been in credit with gas and electric and managed to claim it back?

I'm currently in a situation where I've accumulated credit on my gas and electric accounts. I've heard of instances where individuals have been in a similar position and have successfully claimed or retrieved this credit. For those who have experienced this: Have you ever been in credit with your utility providers, and if so, were you able to claim back the excess amount? How did you go about it, and are there any tips or steps you'd recommend for someone looking to do the same?

I’m always in credit but save it for winter months.

Yes, I got refunded but not all of the amount my account was in credit.

They said they wanted to keep some to offset higher usage in the winter, which is actually the whole point of paying the same amount each month throughout year so i was ok with that.

Don't miss: Should I have a gas fire or electric fire?

Had refunds from Octupus several times. No problems.

I wait until April and then request the credit back as I know I’ve covered the winter months then - I leave a month payment left on the acct.

Yes ring and speak to a human, give them a meter reading and ask for your balance and ask how much you can take out if you are in credit.

They will tell you it takes 5-10 working days to come back to you account. X I've done it with OVO and SSE this year.

Explore these too: Just had my energy bill of British gas and seems a tad expensive

Were also £800 in credit with E.ON & am thinking about claiming about £600 back to us with leaving a £200 credit balance to see us through seeing how the gas/electric charges drop from the 1st October.

I've managed to work ours so I am currently at zero balance.

So by the end of the winter I end up owing them quite a bit and then pay back the balance over summer so that way the money stays on my account and not theirs.

When we've been in credit with British gas we've always claimed ours back left about month in advance at done it at end of winter, last year British gas did it randomly them selves as changed computer system over was in mid December but messed our account up as took it to nil balance so now have bit debit on it.

Always get refunds from octopus. They like to make sure that something is left on your account though. I don’t think you should leave too much credit in your account as if they go bust not always possible to get it back! Unfortunately it’s todays reality!

Better off in your own saving account.
