Tips on how to save some money on their hay
Does anyone use this? I spend $25 a month for 9lb box of oxbow timothy hay and could really use some.
I get hay from our local farmer, I pay $9 for the bale, store it in a hay bag in the house an lasts me.. 6months.
Been doing it for 2 years or so now.
I now typically buy a new bail every 3-4 just cause I feed the deer in my back yard as well now.

I personally tried it and don’t like it at all, it’s extremely dusty. I get $20 bales of orchard hay from my feed store.
I use to but stopped as it can be super dusty and one of my bunnies that bothers him (leaky eyes) plus one bale had mold and live bugs crawling once opened.
I use this for my bunnies and I don’t have an issue with dust. But I also don’t grab from the front. Retail typically stocks new to the back of the shelf, so that’s how you’ll get the freshest bale.
My bunnies love it.

I got this for the first time because I was spending at least $60+ a month. This is the first time my rabbits have had the glorious golden poops (all of the time now too).
go to a feed kill not tractor supply, buy an open bale. dust gets out during transportation so less dust. put it in a trash bag for storage. if you just spray down with water before feeding to help with dust and no, it will not affect your bunny bc it’s wet.
I order from small pet select and larger sizes get much cheaper than what you get at a traditional pet store. It allows us to save 50% on hay and still have high quality.
I buy a compressed bale of hay from a local feed store… a bale is usually under $20 and lasts a long time if you have a dry place to store it. And the compression means it’s not the size of a regular bale.
I buy a 40 lb 2 wire bale of timothy for approx $27 at the local feed store. I keep the bale on the floor of the closet in my rabbits room. It will last 2 ish months for my 3 buns.
I try to get 2nd cutting hay because it tends to be softer, greener, and less dusty than 1st cutting.
