Hay Feeders... need a new one

I know bunnies will take hay out of feeder and put some in their litter box. And they pee on it. Then they don't eat it. I feel like this one wastes half (or more!) of the hay that we feed her.

Suggestions for a new one?

I really like this one. I’ve tried bags and he chewed them, but this has worked really good for us and holds a good amount of hay.

This is what works for my guy! He is pretty good at keeping anything IN the metal thingy clean.

We have the one in your picture and my bunny pulls it all out into the litter box.

It’s so frustrating.

I’m going to try the metal one.

I don't recommend the one in your picture. That was our initial feeder and it's really small and you'll be refilling it often. Sorry I don't have a better recommendation.

My bunny eats hay off the ground in his litter box.

He is generally good about peeing and pooping on one end and eating hay from the other.

Also, check out: What is the side of effect of having unlimited pellets in the bowl?

I’ve used countless different hay feeders and I can tell you this in confidence… there is not one that I have found, that has no waste.

Bunnies will pick through and choose their preferred strands, leaving the less desired ones on the bottom of their litter box, to be soiled.

The only way I have found was to put significantly less hay in their feeder and top up more frequently throughout the day.

I know that is not an option for some, though.

I have the one Emmalyn shared. I like it.

I’ve noticed that if I stuff it full, a lot gets wasted. If I fill it lightly and don’t pack it down, a lot less waste.

I have one bun and I fill it in the morning and evening.

Don't forget to take a look at: What is a good amount of hay to feed/day?

We have this one. We like to pull it in tufts out of the squares.

They don’t go too nuts on it.

We also toss some hay in the litter box a few times a day just to excite them.

I got the one you shared a pic of and my bunnies use it.

I have a litter box under them because one of mine likes to make a mess for no reason but they both eat from them just fine.
