Any tips for solo female travelers? I have heard this place is very safe for women.

Any recommendations for Tokyo & Kyoto appreciated -- especially areas to stay. I am not looking for nightlife, more looking for food, culture, history, etc.

Stay near a main train station. I stayed next to Kyoto Station on my last trip, and I'm doing it again in the spring. The best thing is having access to transit. Tokyo is extremely expensive. Unless there is a lot you are dying to see there, I'd limit my time there. You can do a lot more for a lot less in Kyoto. It also has incredible charm.

Get on TripAdvisor and figure out an itinerary.... Google scams... use common sense and enjoy.

My daughter and I stayed in the “SkyTree” part of Tokyo - our trip was petty short (too short! in part due to a canceled then a delayed flight) but we felt extremely safe there. She was around 14 at the time and middle of the night was going to the FamilyMart for snacks alone.
