Only prerequisite is that it has to be soft shell (I've had too many good quality hard shell ones broken thanks to baggage handlers).

Bonus if it comes in colours other than black.

I love It Luggage. Super lightweight. Lucas is nice as well.

Travel Pro Platinum Elite soft-sided suitcases are the best! (Coincidenally also named by the New York Times Wirecutter as the best luggage.)

Great design, lots of compartments for organization, rolls easy, sturdy, and it still looks good as new.

Keep in mind any color other than black really shows the scoffs.

I’m on my second set of Atlantic. Last set lasted six years.

I got a blue mosaic print that can be seen from 40 paces with my eyes closed.

Atlantic was owned by TravelPro, now privately held.

Mine is soft-side, but their website now only shows hardside.

Mother Lode from.

eBags. Had mine for about six years, wheel broke recently. Called to see if I can get a replacement wheel…. they sent me a brand new suitcase! I didn’t even ask for that! Didn’t matter how long ago I bought it either, no receipt, etc.

highly recommend.

Also, check out: Has anyone used the air tags for luggage?

Buy something with a robust lifetime warranty.

Rimowa
Briggs & Reilly
Osprey
Travel Pro (Platinum Line only)
Eagle Creek (only certain lines, look for the “no matter what” warranty)

Not all lifetime warranties will cover damage, but the really good ones will, and for life.
