I decided to go a few days early with my husband to explore (free days are 4th-7th). What should I do?

I’m a foodie, love scenic views, exploring, live music and shows, and don’t want to do anything that I can do here in DFW.

Boulder for the day:

Pearl street mall, lunch at bartaco, duschanbe tea house, Avery brewing, sightseeing at Boulder falls, sightseeing at lost gulch lookout.

Morrison: the fort for food, check out red rocks, catch sunset or hike around mt falcon west.

Olde town Arvada: lady nomada for food, bluegrass for espresso martinis, the Arvada tavern has a speakeasy upstairs, scrumptious for candy and ice cream. Schoolhouse for fun drinks.

Day trip to Estes park. Get a timed entry into RMNP! Sprague lake is a fun spot to check out without hiking. Bear lake is stunning! Head into town for food and window shopping. Bird and Jim is yummy as well as Ed’s cantina.

Golden: downtown golden is fun! Buffalo rose for food, the mill also has options. New terrain brewing for drinks, coors brewery for drinks. Drive lookout mountain.

Denver: fancier and pricier - but the best food ever - guard and Grace, bao brewhouse is also fun - get a reservation for both! Happy camper for drinks, linger for drinks, welton room for drinks.

Don't miss: Where does everyone book last min all inclusive holidays?

Stay away from 16th street mall.

Go up to Dillon/Breckenridge/Vail. My favorite time of year. Colors should be beautiful. Drive to Glenwood springs to the hot springs.

Williams & Graham is a fun speakeasy (great drinks and food), Red Rocks is awesome for music, El Chipultepec is a jazz club that’s as authentic as they come, Tokio is the BEST ramen and sushi in the city!

Also, I’m not sure if you’re into “tea” at all but The Brown Palace and Babe’s Tea Room also have beautiful afternoon tea experiences.

Explore these too: Denver or Colorado springs for a long weekend in November for a middle aged couple and why?

Take 285 southwest out of Denver for a beautiful scenic drive.

Michelin just put out a guide for Denver, so you can check that out.

A show, even if your not into the music, at Red Rocks in a must.

Fall colors are really great this year. A short drive away, even if you just drive west on I70 towards Breckinridge.

That’s a great mountain town to spend a few hours!

Denver Botanic Gardens are still GORGEOUS this time of year. Second driving south of 285 for scenic views. There are also great views from Lookout Mountain (hiking or just a drive).

Sushi Den on Pearl St has my favorite sushi, along with a really tasty taco place, Uno Mas.

I enjoy walking around Wash(ington) Park this time of year, both for the fall leaves and the people watching.

If you enjoy bagels and Jewish delis, definitely check out The Bagel Deli. They have a latke-dict (eggs benedict with pastrami on a latke) that will blow your mind.

The original REI is downtown, and there are some fun places across the highway from it, like Prost and Happy Camper. Prost still has Oktoberfest happening then, I think.

Also, check out: We’re looking for a recommendation for a quick, last minute beach trip

Drive West into Boulder (I went to CU and it’s breathtaking there and so much to do/see/ eat). Then you can have another beautiful drive from Boulder to Golden CO and go tour the Coors brewery.

But Boulder is the best!! Pearl street has great food options, the Flatiron Mountains are literally right against the city.

Will you have a vehicle? If so Estes Park & Rocky Mountain National Park .. so beautiful!!! If you have time for a hike do it, if not just driving is fun too. Visit their website for timed entry permit info.

A great idea to go south on 285 to get to South Park (yes, THAT South Park... though there is nothing there that is even remotely related to the show...), but it is absolutely beautiful down there and a nice drive.

Drive back to Denver via either Guanella Pass or Boreas Pass (dirt road, might be kinda rough...) and the colors of the aspen should still be good.

Probably a bit past peak, but if the sky is blue and the sun is out, it should be pretty close to spectacular! (IMHO, I'd skip Boulder. It's not as great as people think... years ago, it was a cool place to go. Now? Not so much... but, then I might be biased.)

Don't forget to take a look at: Is there such a thing as a last minute cheap deal?

Catch a show at Red Rocks if Possible, Rent an ebike in Golden and ride the paths along the river.

Go up Lookout Mountain and catch the views and see Buffalo Bill's Museum and grave.
