What’s your favorite and/or bucket list southern hemisphere destinations “off the beaten path”?
The island of Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania, Africa. When I was growing up, Tanzania was Tanganyika—-until the country annexed the island.
On the Indian Ocean with white sand and crystal waters; tide went out for a mile, leaving tidal pools with every color of starfish.
Don't miss: Any area/hotel recommendations for either Mauritius or Zanzibar?

It can be a long strench. But visit Sri Lanka if possible. You'll be amazed to your core. The sunny beaches, scenic mountain ranges, waterfalls, wild elephants, the historic culture, whales, dolphins and much more.
The best winterscape you can imagine.
Trust me you'll live it.
Explore these too: Masai Mara park in Kenya or Kruger park in South Africa? Which is better and why?

Easter Island has been on my "Bucket List" since I was a Teenager, (before they called Wish Lists Bucket Lists!) I still want to go before long haul traveling is off the table.
Hubbie has no interest, for shame, but said I could go with another Solo lady....Maybe consider Easter Island.

Bolivia. Still massively under-the-radar, but its natural beauty and plethora of climates makes it a must see, especially the Uyuni Salt Flats!
Well, mine is way way way off the beaten path, and in Central America. El Mirador is the largest pyramid and is located on the northern border of Guatemala.
A 22 mile hike north in a mule train from Carmelita.

I grew up in Chile. Such a variety of geography. Desert in the north and the south with all the lakes and volcanos is simply stunning.
The coast is lovely too. Food is amazing all over! My parents were from Quito, Ecuador so there’s another beautiful country with so many interesting places to visit and delicious food to try!
Old Quito, the middle of the world, he volcanos.

There are some pretty good mukti month backpacking or over landing routes that go all through South America, kind of a big exterior loop.

We spend parts of the year in Uruguay… it’s absolutely beautiful, safe & so much to do and explore. We are retiring there in just a couple of years from the US… we love it that much. My granddaughter is feet from our retirement property and sums up life there.
