If I'm coming from Don det (south Laos) and want to cross over to Ho chi Min? Any suggestions?

Just been in the same situation. If you're coming from Don Det, head to Siem Reap first. Then generally people go to Battambang, Koh Rong /Koh Rong Sanloem, Kampot, Phnom Penh that will be the closest spot for you to cross into Vietnam.

If you go Phnom Penh first, you'd have to go back on yourself so you're close to the Vietnam boarder. So, I'd say start in Siem Reap.

You can take a bus across the border to Phnom Pehn via Kratie.

There was a boat from Phnom Pehn to the Vietnam border. Not sure about a bus to Ho Chi Min.

I did Don Det-Siem Reap-Battabong-Phnom Penh-Koh Rong-Sanloem-Kampot-HCMC.

Angkhor, phnom penh and kampot are my favourites. Then from kampot a short 30 mins to Vietnam mekong areas.
