Hi all, I signed up with Octopus a couple of months ago (switching from SP).

On Friday I have a knock at the door, a SP rep, telling me that in November, SP who is the primary company and supplies Octopus with gas and electric, will be taking land back off Octopus and therefore Octopus will be increasing their rates…?

Can anyone confirm this? He said the prices will increase significantly so I decide to sign up, but now I’m wondering if I’ve made a big mistake?

Please help. I hope my post makes sense as I had a tired 3 year old wanting my attention at the same time as he was explaining all this!

I thought cold calling was not allowed. but certainly if you have any paperwork drop a copy off to trading standards as this is naughty misselling.

You should have a cancellation period.

Honestly, some people! So sorry you were conned. These people seem so very plausible, don't they?

I wish they'd come here my menopausal hormones would make mincemeat out of them! Put it behind you and enjoy the rest of your day.

Don't miss: Has anyone considered Octopus Energy’s Tracker tariff and can share experiences?

Hi so I work for octopus unfortunately this is false!

Our prices are based on what ofgem sets in place and most suppliers are close in pricing.

It appears this is door to door sales.

You should have a withdrawal period.

Sorry, this happened to you.

I actually think this needs a complaint to Scottish Power about the lies you were told by this person. It is shocking and they should be sacked if they work for SP. This is why cold calling should be totally banned as there is little regulation and no policing of what these people say on the doorstep.

I have a police sign in my window stating that I do not accept cold calls and that if they do not leave when asked the police will be called.

This means anyone cold calling at your door is committing a criminal offence.

Explore these too: 2-year gas/electric contract with Scottish Power ending. Best provider recommendations?

I assume you did at least some basic research to confirm what they were saying, before signing up? You didn't just take the word of a random rep who turned up on your doorstep? You must surely have asked at least some basic questions about when this was going to happen and how buying land from Octopus was supposed to affect the unit price of gas and electricity?

As most have said here, the doorstep person has simply lied to you. It’s not a slight inaccuracy or a distortion of figures, it’s just outright out lies.

I would be inclined to cancel your switch as soon as possible.

Scottish Power are the worst. They put me in so much debt because they couldn't set up my dd correctly numerous times. In the end I went higher and higher in the complaints department until it was sorted.

Wouldn't touch SP with a bargepole!
