I see everyone recommending compressor dehumidifier...I know the desiccant is more expensive to run and it works well in lower temp and generates hea too. Compressor dehumidifiers run better at higher temperature, their performance degrades at lower temps.
I don't run my central heating much as I am not too cold. I maintain my home temp at around 13-16 degrees. (as winter sets in).
What do you suggest I should buy? Compressor or desiccant and if desiccant then which one.
Thanks

A compressor dehumidifier is less efficient the lower the temperature but it still does work. I'd only advise using a desiccant in unheated spaces such as a garage, outbuilding, caravans etc.
Most homes have enough residual heat for a compressor dehumidifier to work just fine.

The compressor units warm the air from the refrigeration motor, 5 degrees is the lowest temperature it functions at.
