404 External links.. Do those have any negative effects on your side?

External links pointing to inner pages on your website that is no longer there aka a 404. Do those have any negative effects on your side?

Just create a redirect
redirect to a relevant page. If the page is no longer relevant I would still redirect to a similar page to keep some of the link equity

Redirect to content on your site that most closely matches the removed content. If that doesn't exist, make the missing URL a 410 (removed).

Other option is to contact the linking site and ask them to update or change the link.

It’s not harming the site but you also get zero benefits from those links.

Yes it does have a negative effect on SEO and user experience. You'll want to add a redirect to another page with similar content.
